Coastal management

The Canterbury district coastline spans 21.7km, 16.9km of which is our responsibility.  15.3km of this is defended by a combination of beach, timber and rock groynes, rock revetment and various types of seawalls.

These defences protect £3 billion of property and assets in the district and require coastal maintenance. Our Sea Defence team maintain the coastline through a series of coastal inspections which identify areas of weakness along the defence line, which is followed up by the required maintenance.
